Chick Fil A and the Gospel

I'll show up at Chick Fil A today, probably more than once. I must frequent our local franchise 5 - 7 times a week, sometimes in multiples during any given day. I don't think they have been treated fairly nor portrayed accurately in the media. So, I'll stop in, see the crew, say hello and have a meal.

But, let's not confuse all this for evangelism nor for our calling as Christians to proclaim Jesus Christ. As Christians trying to live godly lives in a culture that is more and more tolerant of everything except Christianity, we have to be careful not to judge those that are judging us (Matt 7:1), not to return anger for anger nor offense for offense (1 Pet 3:9).

It's easy to get caught up in the media hype and start defending ourselves by throwing stones back at those who throw stones at us, by becoming as angry as they are and justifying it on our being holy and righteous. It's easy to convince ourselves that God needs us to defend Him.

If any of us is to fight back in a godly fashion, our side of the conflict must be characterized by the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22). Without it, we are nothing more nor better than those who are angry, judgmental and accusing of us. "Without love....we have nothing" A careful reading of 1 Cor 13:1-7 might be a good idea before we step into Chick Fil A today.

Here's a great article on this whole issue, posted at Cripplegate and another one by Dr. Al Mohler.

  1. Love this, thanks. " Each of us will probably have multiple conversations today that have the possibility to matter in someone’s life in a way that your lunchtime food choice simply doesn’t."
