Mike at the Refugee Camps in Chad

This came from Mike today.

These pictures are from our pilots stationed here in Abeche, Chad. They are very brave to live and operate out of such harsh conditions. The security situation in Chad is very challenging for all the humanitarian workers. We fly to numerous refugee camps with the Twin Otter along the Sudan border. There are hundreds of thousands of refugees who have been displaced from Sudan and Chad. Their needs are great and the workers are few. During the rainy season, the streams and “waddies” are over flowing with water, and impassible by vehicle. That leaves the airplane as the only means of transportation in and out of these camps.

We carry food, medical supplies, and humanitarian aid workers in and out of the refugee camps. We conduct medical evacuations on an “as needed” basis. We use the Twin Otter in Chad because it can land and takeoff from wet and muddy airstrips where most other aircraft would just “sink” in the mud. The Otter is also the best for the “hot” desert summers with excellent payload capacity and handling qualities on the rough, short, sandy airfields.

We are supposed to fly out to the camps early in the morning where I hope to take more pictures.

Please pray for the small number of mission and humanitarian workers who serve in this region of the world. Many of them are the “salt and light” for these suffering people.
