Canonical Reading Plan for Jul 4, Psa 106-107

Today’s readings are Psa 106-107.

Psa 106 - Praise (The Psalmist extols God's mighty deliverance).

Psa 106 is the last Psalm in Book Four. Notice, again, it is Davidic in theme and ends with "Blessed be the Lord, God of Israel" (Psa 106:48).

There is a chiastic structure to Psa 106.

A-Praise& prayer (vs 1-5)
B-Litany of Israel's rebellions prior to and during the  exodus (vs 6-46)
A-Praise & Prayer (vs 47-48)

The structure of the chiasm shows us the Psalm is a reminder of Israel's stumbles while in captivity and during the exodus as well as a reminder of God's deliverance in each case.

Book Five begins with Psa 107. Its theme is "Praise and Worship."

Psa 107 - Thanksgiving (The Psalmist praises God's deliverance).

Psa 107 is another chiasm

A-Exhortation to praise (vs 1-3)
B-God delivers those in the desert (vs 4-9)
C-God delivers those in darkness (vs 10-16)
D-Even fools repent and find salvation
C-God delivers those in the deep (vs 23-32)
B-God delivers those in the desert (vs 33--42)
A-Exhortation to be wise (vs 43)

The Psalmist wants to make it clear that God delivers all who call out to Him. Those who are wise will do so.
