Some Things That Were Not Upset Last Night

What an amazing evening we've just witnessed! An historic election has been put to bed. The people have spoken. The system has functioned the way it is designed to function.

Now, we have to find a path forward. For the church of Jesus Christ, one burning question remains. The question has not been upset by a vote that surprised a lot of people. "What part does the church play in the healing of our nation."

So, while the electoral vote was considered an upset, there are some things that have not been upset:

  • God is as much on His throne as He was yesterday morning, not more so, not less.
  • We, the body of Christ are still called to be peacemakers (Mt 5:9).
  • The path to healing still rests in our hands. We are to bless those who persecute us. We do not curse them. We live in harmony with one another. We are neither haughty nor wise in our own sight. We are to live peaceably with all. We overcome evil with good.
  • This morning is a very good time to reread Rom 12:14-21, which has not been upset either.
This is a time, brothers and sisters for us to redouble our prayers. There is as much danger, for some, in victory as there is defeat. God is as much in control of the White House as He would have been if the election went the other way. He remains on the throne--and we remain accountable for our actions and behavior. Let this be the church's finest hour as we reach out, not in a partisan way, but in a gospel way. Let us not to congratulate ourselves in victory, but let us be vessels of grace, mercy and love.
