Odds & Ends

Kelly and I are going to Gaithersburg with 3 other members of the Worship team (Ron Scruggs, Diane Strang and Bob Mayhugh) this Wednesday. We will be attending a worship conference led by Bob Kauflin, worship leader for C.J. Mahaney's Sovereign Grace church and author of 'Worship Matters'. Two of the speakers are Mark Dever and Anwabile Thabiti, who we heard at T4G. We'll blog the conference for those who are interested in following along.

Kelly and I go directly from the conference to our vacation destination, TopSail Island, NC. TopSail is a quiet, more residential beach destination. We've been going there for about 5 years now and we love it! I really enjoy the beach on our vacation and, since TopSail is not nearly as expensive as the more popular towns like Myrtle Beach or Nags Head, we can stay longer! We'll be there for two weeks, returning on Aug 16. I've got my reading material set aside and it leans heavily on 2 themes, spy novels and resource materials on Chapter 14 of 1 Corinthians! The good news...Jason will join us for 5 days! We're excited and looking forward to the down time.

John Boswell will be speaking this Sunday. Ernest Ariola will speak on Aug 10. He has a message on God's miraculous provision and the feeding of the 5,000. Scott Ferrell will be speaking on 'The Church and Politics' on Aug 17. I've seen Ernest's and Scott's material and they look great! I'm excited about seeing men of God who have a passion and the capability to handle His Word rise up among us.

WBF has friends in Kenya! I've been corresponding with Gideon Mudenyo, Director of Evangelism and Missions for The Lord's Ministries in Kenya. I received an email from Pastor Gideon about three months ago. They found us on the web and have been listening to our sermons for a while now and wanted to let us know they were praying for us every Saturday night! After checking them out, I realized that God may be doing something here. We should be praying for them as well. I'm preparing a box of materials to send to them. Their specific request is for prayer to be able to disciple and train men in preaching the Word of God.

Kelly and I will be in cell range and reading our email while we're away. If you have any prayer requests, let us know.

  1. John's blog fact checker checking in -- The Kuvakas family has been going to Top Sail for at least seven years now, possibly eight. If I told ya'll what milestone in my life was marked by a missed trip there, I would betray my growing age . . .
