Daily Bread for Jun 27, Psa 74-77
Today’s readings are Psa 74-77.
Ps 74 - Lament (Asaph seeks
God's protection)
Ps 75 - Thanksgiving (Asaph
records God's warning)
Ps 76 - Thanksgiving (Asaph
exalts God's power)
Ps 77 - Lament (Asaph
petitions God's comfort)
Psalms like 74 and, as we will
see, 79 reflect the fear and frustration of battle. Asaph pleads for God to
intervene for His own sake and for the sake of His reputation. Yet, God's might
and sovereign authority are acknowledged and proclaimed in Ps 74:12-17 and
Psalm 79:8-10. Psalms like these remind us that there can be moments of fear
and doubt in our walk. Even when the fear seems overwhelming, rather than
allowing it to victimize us, we should keep our focus on God, repent from
lacking trust in Him and believe that He controls the outcome.
