Chronological Reading Plan for June 4, Prov 7-9

Today's readings are Prov 7-9. Tomorrow's are Prov 10-12.

In today's chapters, wisdom is elevated into a godly attribute. We see that true, practical application of godly insight and behavior nets blessing, peace and joy.

This is all great and filled with common-sense things we should do as the people of God. But, how do we achieve this kind of wisdom? Where can we start? What makes the wisdom described in this awesome book any better or more effective than worldly wisdom and experience?

Prov 9:10 holds the key to true, godly wisdom, wisdom that has eternal consequences, not just temporal impact.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight."
The reverential awe of God and who He is is the beginning of wisdom. It is the seed in which the practical application of wisdom will bear fruit in our lives and the lives of those around us.

Prov 8:32-33 tells us where we can find this wisdom,
"And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord, but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death.”
Wisdom is found in heeding instruction. Putting Prov 8-9 together, we see this instruction begins with the fear of the Lord. It is the pursuit of His ways, His word and His character and nature in how we live our lives. That's where we find life and the favor of the Lord. Anything else we pursue injures us and leads to death.
