Chronological Reading Plan for June 12, 1 Kings 8, 2 Chron 5
Today's readings are 1
Kings 8 and 2 Chronicles 5. Tomorrow's are 2 Chronicles 6 & 7 and Psalm
136.
In 1 Kings 8,
the ark is brought into the Temple with great ceremony, symbolizing the arrival
of God into His house. The Temple is dedicated and the glory of the Lord
settles into the Holy of Holies. Solomon prays an amazing prayer, thanking God
for His goodness and, amazingly, prophesying the coming captivity of the Hebrews. Once
again we see the amazing grace of God toward Solomon and toward His people. God
knows they are going to stumble, yet He comes to dwell among them anyway.
The chronicler looks
back on the entry of the ark into the Temple in 2 Chron 5, putting more
emphasis upon and providing more detail on the role of the Levites and the
musicians.
So, we see an emphasis on the king in 1 Kings 8 and an emphasis on the priests and worship in 2 Chron 5. Combined, we can see the importance of a king and priests to the worship of God. This all points to the One who will come that will be King and High Priest, bringing us into the presence of God.
