Chronological Reading Plan for May 26, 1 Chron 26-29, Psalms 127
Today's readings are 1 Chron 26-29, Psalms 127. Tomorrow's are Psalms 111-118.
In 1 Chron 26, gatekeepers are assigned and given specific gates to watch over and specific duties. Notice this is done by casting lots. The positions are not assigned according to ability, looks, capability or popularity. The casting of lots leaves the decisions in God's hands alone.
1 Chron 27 shows us how a true theocracy (a government focused on God) functions. The military works at the behest of the king and "everything pertaining to God." The treasury was run in a similar manner.
In chapters 28-29, David charges Israel with bring loyal to God. He graciously hands the building of the Temple to Solomon, who will be the last king anointed and proclaimed king By God. The Temple will be a permanent testimony to the presence of God ("footstool") and the peace and rest of his people.
Israel is at rest and prosperous. With a common vision and a focus on God, they move in unity. David reminds them that this is not yet their home. They are still aliens in a strange land. God has something better for them. 1 Chron 29:18 i a beautiful reminder of where the focus of Israel's heart should be. It's also a poignant reminder to us.
