Book Review: "The Reason For God" by Tim Keller

Have you ever tried to share your faith with someone who seems to have an argument for everything you say? Tim Keller has. Tim is the founding Pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. He has, for the last 20 years, been successfully ministering the word of God right in the middle of a subculture that many have deemed frustrating and hopeless. As such, he has encountered many of the standard arguments and refutations against our faith....and many we have never imagined.

His new book The Reason for God, handles those arguments and dismantles them, one by one. Keller's approach to difficult questions like:

  • Why does God allow suffering in the world?
  • How can a loving God send people to Hell?
  • Why isn't Christianity more inclusive?
  • How can one religion be right and all the others be wrong?
is not only refreshing and provocative but sound in its Scriptural foundation and easy to understand.

Hearing Keller say things like, "Anyone who tells you that the absolute truth is impossible to know is refuting their own argument." is revelatory in that he exposes the weak underbelly of most "rational" arguments against Christianity.

This book is a great apologetic and a relatively easy read. It is exactly the tool you need when you want to hand something substantial to someone who thinks they've got it all figured out.
