My Morning Devotions; "We will sing and praise Your power," Psalm 21
I've been trying to start my day by meditating on His word and appropriating it into my prayers for the day. This is a peek at what that process looks like. I'll read through the Psalm, highlighting those things that pop out at me. Then I pray through the highlights, repenting where necessary, giving thanks where appropriate. With that in mind, here is how the Spirit of the Lord ministered to me this morning. I pray it blesses you as it did me.
Psalm 21 shows David rejoicing in the Lord and His strength. It might be helpful to see David as the king representing his people before the Lord. In that way, the king’s blessings become those of his people. In other words, David speaks for us.
Psalm 21:1
1 O LORD, in your strength the king rejoices, and in your salvation how greatly he exults!
Do I take my joy in the salvation I’ve received? Or, do I try to find joy in other things, other people, my situations? Do I allow other things or other people to rob me of my joy? Is my strength in the Lord or in my own capabilities? Help me, by the presence and power of the Spirit, to find my strength and joy in You today, Lord.
Psalm 21:3–4
3 For you meet him with rich blessings; you set a crown of fine gold upon his head.
4 He asked life of you; you gave it to him, length of days forever and ever.
The Lord has blessed me in a mighty way, graciously giving me all that I have. Do I appreciate it or do I want more? Am I satisfied in Him and His salvation? Lord help me to be satisfied and overflowing with joy in You and Your presence in my life. Mold me and shape me until I can claim as David did...
Psalm 21:6–7
6 For you make him most blessed forever; you make him glad with the joy of your presence.
7 For the king trusts in the LORD, and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be moved.
Help me, Lord to give You praise in all I do and in all that crosses my path this day. Help me to keep my focus on You, to find my completion in You, to find my strength in You and to find my rest in You.
Psalm 21:13
13 Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power.
I learned at our Bible reading marathon that reading outloud is a blessing and makes you really listen to the words. Instead of skimming over it quickly as I read thru to the next email.
