Chronological Reading Plan for June 14, Psalms 134, 145-150

Today's readings are Psalms 134, 146-150. Tomorrow's are 1 Kings 9, 2 Chron 8.

Psalm 134 was a "Song of Ascents". The Temple was built and had been dedicated. It sat atop Mount Moriah, just north of the City of David. These songs were sung as people approaching the temple climbed the hill and then mounted the steps to the temple.

Psalms 146-150 serve a similar purpose. Imagine the temple mount in sight, at the top of that nearby hill. Once you enter it, you will be standing on the site that God Himself chose for His dwelling. You want to prepare your heart for true worship and thanks for what He has done. So, you sing. You sing about God and His greatness, His glory. You sing with a grateful heart.

This is the essence of worship. We no longer have to climb a hill. God lives inside us. We should still be diligent to prepare our hearts for worship, looking forward in anticipation of being together as His people, giving Him praise. These Psalms are an excellent way to do that.
