A Word of Hope On a Dark Day

We are a society of instantaneous and complete information. Sometimes, I'd rather we were not. We have at our diposal, vivid images of current events mere seconds after they occur. We live through and remember events by these indelible images that will forever bring back, in vivid detail, the emotions experienced at significant moments in our history. Who can forget the sight of the Kennedy limousine, Challenger, the Twin Towers and now, a group of children being led from their school building, told to keep their eyes closed to the horror surrounding them.

There are no words that can describe the type of evil we've seen today. "Lord, deliver us from hopelessness and fear, knowing You are the Great Comforter." Let's lift these devastated families and friends up in our prayers and hold tightly to the promise and hope found in Scripture: Mark 10:13-16 "And they were bringing children to Him so that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, “Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. “Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.” And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them."

May God hold these precious little ones firmly in His arms and may He bring comfort and healing, in time, to their families. The night will be long and sorrowful but we pray for the light of hope to come soon.

Many will want to question God at a time like this. This is a natural reaction from those who do not know Him. May we, as the salt and light to the world, His children, encourage others to trust Him now, of all times. If ever our nation needed the hope of the gospel, it is today.
