"I've Been In An Accident!"

We had one of those heart-stopper phone calls last night. It was about 1:30 AM. I remember hearing the phone ring very vaguely in the background of some dream I was having. As I tried to stir myself awake, I heard Kelly say, "....are you ALRIGHT!??"

I've thought about these moments frequently. Every time the phone rings late at night, my thought go straight to my kids. Mercifully, we have had very few of them. I was immediately awake when Kelly came back to the bedroom to tell me that our son, Jason had been in an accident and the ambulance was on its' way to pick him up.

Without saying anything to each other, by God's grace and the leading of the Holy Spirit, both of us had been led to pray a number of times for Jason throughout the evening. Now we were headed to the hospital. We prayed, on the way, thanking God and asking for His blessing.

When we got there, his girlfriend and her mother were already there. Guess who got the first phone call?...I'm am truly glad she's that important to him :) He arrived about 10 minutes later and we got to see him a few minutes after that.

He was banged up and bruised, having run into a tree that fell in the roadway in front of him. There was a lot of blood coming from a big scrape across his forehead but it was obvious that he was, in light of the circumstances, going to be OK. He will be sore for a few days and we're going to have to find a car but the three of us were so thankful that the night would end far better than it might have without the intervention, provision and protection of Our Father in Heaven.

We got home about 5 AM, Jason dressed in a really cool paper outfit from the hospital as his clothing was soaked in blood and rain.

The whole incident was a poignant reminder that our children are totally in His hands and He loves them as much as He loves us. We give Him all the praise and all the thanks of our hearts that our boy, like us at times, may be battered but is still blessed.
