Ben Stein's "Expelled" and "Iron Man"!

I went to see "Iron Man" last night with Jason and Jessie. A really great movie! Except for one unnecessarily suggestive (but not obscene) scene near the beginning, the entire movie was entertaining, free of profanity, fast paced and very well done. I was encouraged by the "National Treasure" movie and now am equally encouraged by this one. Hollywood can do a great movie without making me blush or offending me when I watch it.

Mind you, this is not Academy Award winning material but, judging from some of the movies that have won recently, that may be a plus. Very few Award winners are truly family fare.

Robert Downey (Tony Stark/Iron Man) steals the show here and, if you ever read Marvel's 'Iron Man', Downey nails it! He's backed up by a demure Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts) and a very nasty Jeff Bridges (Stark's partner).

Now, if we could just get into the movie for less than a tank of gas...I'm not sure what's worse, the price of gas or the cost of movie tickets!

Additionally......

If you haven't heard, Ben Stein is about to release a movie called "Expelled". I ran across this preliminary review over at Old Truth. It looks like it may be a pretty interesting movie:

Expelled Movie: Science's War Over Human Origin

It will not be my normal practice on Old Truth to offer commentary on films but recent comments on some of our posts here and the release of Ben Stein's "Expelled" have prompted me to compose my thoughts on the issues raised in this film. The movie is a documentary about the blacklisting of scientists who wish to raise the topic of Intelligent Design (I.D.) in the world of academia. For even mentioning the subject many scientists have been fired and black listed. The fact that this sort of thing was going on really came as no surprise to me, and in fact I was already familiar with much of what was reported by Stein in his documentary. Ben Stein is an incredibly intelligent and capable man. I would say that the documentary accurately reported the state of the main stream scientific community and it's utter disdain for any idea that even remotely relates to I.D. Their greatest fear is that, in the words of one of the scientists interviewed, religion and prayer will find their way back into the schools. The purpose of scientists at places like the Smithsonian is to rid the world of all knowledge of God by the means of science.
