Our New Post-modern/Contemplative/Emergent/Culturally Relevant Sign!
Our new sign is being installed today. I thought you might like to preview it. Here's what the old sign, a conventional and fairly typical church sign, looked like:
Here's Bob, demonstrating how our new
Post-modern/Contemplative/Emergent/Culturally Relevant sign looks:
It was pretty expensive but it has some great features:
. It has no text so no one will be offended by our calling ourselves a traditional church
. It claims no absolute truth so it can be redefined and reconstructed as often as the reader likes
. It is totally subjective allowing the interpretation and meaning to lie totally in the hands of the reader
. It places no pressure or constraints on how, when or why we worship; we can worship any way or any time or in any fashion we like...no legalism here!
. It is totally transparent and open to other interpretations and beliefs, allowing the reader to fill in any blank (or all blanks, if he prefers) himself, deriving his own truth and allowing those who adhere to other truths to have their say so in what the sign means.
. It is not bound to the tradition of what the sign said before. It is totally free to say anything...or nothing depending on how the reader is 'experiencing' the sign.
. We never have to do anything! The sign is maintenance free and makes no demands whatsoever on us!
Let us know what you think.....or how you feel....or how you interpret all this....or how much or little of it is true for you!
The we'll all get together, sit in a circle (not, heaven forbid, pews!), burn some incense, empty our minds and consider the cosmic implications of the new sign.

These comments offend me. Or the lack of comments. Or maybe I just feel like a good slice of pie right now. I'll think about it and get back to you.
ReplyDeleteThe sign clearly says "pirates are welcome" come as you are. . .
