Missions Dessert With Ken From Cert!

Gene and Carol Aubrey hosted a dessert for Ken Daugherty, President of CERT (Christian Emergency Relief Teams International). WBF has had a long standing relationship with them through our Missions Committee. Ken is a godly and gracious man who was fascinating to listen to. I'm looking forward to hearing him share in our service tomorrow morning.

Their website says, "CERT International is a 501 (C) (3), non-denominational, Christian Organization headquartered in Crossville, Tennessee. Our purpose is to bring relief to suffering and needy people around the world. By meeting the physical needs of people first, there is greater opportunity for hearts to be opened and receive the Good News of Jesus Christ."

The Aubreys have a great log cabin way out in the middle of 'The Free State' (if you have to ask, you don't know). It somehow manages to be cozy and warm...but have a lot of room as well. About 15 people gathered to listen to and fellowship with Ken.

The main topic of conversation was our Summer Missions Trips. Cert has worked frequently with Bud Lenz and his tribe. The Missions Committee, working closely with CERT and Bud, is planning 2 trips to Peru this summer!

We'll hear all the details tomorrow but both trips are exciting. The first one starts on July 9 with that group returning home on July 22. That trip will be to the jungle outside of Porto Molvado ( I think I have the spelling correct) where Bud is moving his orphanage. This will be a ministry/working project near the river with the team members riding in small river boats and staying in camps.

The second trip will be to the mountains....the Ande Mountains. It will begin on July 21 with those folks returning home on Aug 3. That trip will be a bit better suited for families as the sleeping accommodations will be in motels instead of tents and camps.

Both trips promise to be life changing and challenging. This is a perfect opportunity to put feet to our faith and watch God do some really amazing things. For those who have been on one, they will tell you that very few things they have done have had as much impact on their own walk with the Lord.

I see this as a full body/whole church opportunity. Not everyone will be able to go. But everyone will be able to have a part in the sending and to reap the blessings of answering God's call. We will need:

  • Volunteers to go on the trips
  • Sacrificial givers to finance the trips
  • Prayer warriors to support the travelers
  • Folks to help out with fund raisers
  • More volunteers to fill in while the travelers are gone
  • Encouragers to edify the teams and the body at WBF

Kelly and I are praying about going. You can start praying right now about your part and how God would have you involved.
