Eat Your Hearts Out, Guys!
Ever since I left the auto business, I've had the opportunity to attend the Detroit Auto Show, one of the premier auto shows in the world. It was ironic that, for 20 years I wanted to go and because I was in the business, I couldn't.
Well, 5 years ago, Jason and I went and now it has become an annual pilgrimage almost every year since then. Rooms are relatively cheap, the cars and concepts are a lot of fun and it has been a very special time with my son and, more recently, my son-in-law, Todd as well. We have traditions we observe: stop at every Starbucks between Breezewood and Detroit, visit a car museum, go to the 'Beef Jerky Capital of the World" (I am not making this up!). I usually reserve the room in October so we can stay near Cobo Hall in downtown Detroit. I did so this year as well.
It has become obvious that Jason will quite likely be distracted this year by a very cute young lady who is quickly endearing
herself to our family.
I was bummed.
When I mentioned to Kelly that I would probably forfeit the room and stay home this year, she said, "I've always wanted to go. Why don't you take me?" I was floored! New cars (the new ZR1!), concept cars (RX9!) and my wife (Kelly!). Road trips don't get any better than this! One hesitation, though.....she does have some reservations about the beef jerky. She says she already has one......I don't get it!!??
Nonetheless....."WoaHoa! Roadtrip!" We leave next Friday!

No! You've misquoted me...I love beef jerky. I just didn't like the first year you bought twenty pounds of it on MY credit card! But you've changed your evil ways...or should I say your "jerky" ways?
