Chattanooga - Day 4
After another of Mark's by-now-world-famous-meals (someone in Pakistan pick up yesterday's blog entries), I went to a class called "Structuring", an odd name for the class in that we spent the entire day deconstructing the text of 2 Thessolonians.
This was a tough and potentially tedious class. The main concept of Structuring is to break the text up into complete but single ideas and modifiers in an effort to more easily understand what the text says. Our instructor, Jodie, did a great job of keeping things interesting and moving along at a pace slow enough to convey the idea but fast enough to get us through the material.
I must admit, once I got the hang of it, Structuring does a lot to bring clarity to the passage. In the words of our syllabus, "Structuring forces you to think, keep from assuming before understanding and to slow down long enough to hear what God is saying." This is another tool that works! Everything I've seen so far, encourages the reader to slow down and look closely at the text before moving on.
I was asked to do an interview today. I went to the 'Auditorium' expecting to find a basketball court. Instead, I walked onto a sound stage complete with stage lights, big cameras and backdrops! It was a real interview with some pretty intriguing questions, "John, what do you think the primary problem in the church today is?...." This was right up my alley and I had a great time.
Hey! I think NBC is calling me...wait......Nope! It was just the desk clerk telling me I had to sign the registration sheet. Well...they have my number!
The day was long and fairly tiring. I'm in nesting mode in my room. Everything is set up where I can find it and, for a short while this is my 'home'. My room is not real large but it's very comfortable
They have this huge sign on the front of my house!
Don't tell the other guests here but....by strictly confidential arrangement, they send someone in to tidy up every day! They make my bed, wash my towels and bring me a new bar of soap. I guess being a local TV star has its' benefits!
