Chattanooga - Day 2
Another great day studying the Word. We spent the morning reviewing and re-applying the lessons from yesterday. I am really amazed at how much insight this method of Bible study unlocks. We are constantly reading a passage (in this set of lessons we are in Genesis and looking at the life of Abraham) and using other Scripture to illuminate and bring meaning to the text being taught.
I asked for and received a doctrinal statement from one of the directors today. They are a conservative organization that lines up with our positions at WBF. I've had a chance to talk to a number of people on staff here. Their dedication to the truth of God's Word is admirable. I've heard a number of questions posed in class, tough doctrinal questions, where the only answer given has been, "Let's let the text address that." The we begin to analyse and cross reference the text. Inevitable, it does speak for itself. God's Word is so simple yet so complex. I am constantly amazed at how 'alive' it really is.
Mercifully, we got out of class a little early today (about 4:00). It gave me a chance to get caught up on some phone calls and to try and absorb some of what I've seen.
In a day and time where the church (universal) seems to be moving away from an emphasis on Scripture and sound doctrinal teaching, it's refreshing that God has been leading us (WBF) to people and ministries that value and cherish an inerrant, infallible, God breathed Bible.
I like this place and these people.
