Sometime, You Just Have to Slow Down!

Things have been pretty hectic the last few weeks. With Ruth's delivery pending (the Doctor says it could be any moment now, I'm calling it for next Tuesday...), Kelly and I have been rushing all over the place trying to prepare for being out of town.

We haven't really slowed down much. So, last night, we had the opportunity to go out together for dinner. We headed toward Gainesville right around dinner time.

Now, if any of you have ever heard my philosophy on the Fall, you know I'm not a big fan. I just see the Fall as an ominous precursor to the onset of Winter. I know. I know. The beautiful leaves, the crisp air, yada, yada.....Don't get me started about it! If you're having a great day it'll just get you depressed. So let's just say that it was getting a little chilly last night as we walked to the restaurant (Q'Doba, by the way) and leave it at that.

We sat and enjoyed our meal and got caught up. Then we meandered over to Starbucks, one of my favorite stops, for a few lattes. We were chatting about the weather and our plans for Vermont (read 'cold') and waiting for our drinks, I noticed it was getting dark outside. As we walked out the door and to the car, I took just a small sip. It was like swallowing a ray of sunshine! It was such a vivid contrast to the cool night air, warm and smooth, radiating from the cup and from inside me like a warm beach on a sunny day.

It's great to slow down every now and then.

  1. A little insight into our Starbuck's pit stop. If you haven't figured it out yet, my husband is charming, smart, engaging...and very imaginative...

As I doctored my venti decaf latte (2 splendas and 3 shakes of cinnamon), I told John that the music that was playing in Starbucks (neutral by Al's standards, by the way) reminded me of a cheap detective mystery movie wherein John launched into prose; I'll try to quote part of what he said...

"All he could see across the smoke-filled room was her ruby red lipstick..."

I burst out laughing - He's too good!

I do thank God that He gives John the words as well as THE WORD to speak to all of us nearly every week. Thanks for letting us be human with you as well as hopefully being tools in the hands of our living God.

Blessings, smiles and warm thoughts on cool nights,
    Kel
