Something Is Missing!
I got into my car yesterday morning to go to the church. it was about 5:45 AM, so it was still dark outside. Driving in, praying and lifting up the day to the Lord, there was a nagging feeling that I was missing something.
I was blessed to work with Al Menconi. He's a great speaker and a really neat guy. This is the type of guest speaker we strive for, a godly man with a Scripturally focused message and a practical application. I am really looking forward to working with him in the Spring again.
Kelly and I went to lunch with Al, Dick and Susan Wright (Pastor from Community Christian Fellowship) and Scott and Margo Heine from Hope Christian Fellowship. We had a great lunch and some great fellowship. Still, there was something missing but I couldn't quite figure out what it was.
I was sitting at home later in the evening. I was going through my email and about to update my blog when it hit me. My camera was not in my car! Neither was my Ipod! Didn't I leave them there? Did I put them in my office? After checking the car thoroughly and going back to the church, I surmised that they had been stolen! That was what was missing this morning! I must have left my car unlocked Saturday night and someone walked up the driveway to our house in our quiet little neighborhood, opened the door to my car and took the only two things that were in it, my digital camera and my audio lifeline, my Ipod.
After gettng over feeling somewhat violated then filing a Police report, Kelly and I were talking about all the times we've left our cars unlocked in the driveway and even the times we've left our house unlocked. Someone could have just as easily walked into our house as they got into my car.
So what now? Do we live in fear and apprehension that this may happen again? Proverbs 29 says, "25 The fear of man brings a snare, But he who trusts in the Lord will be exalted." We are told, clearly and repeatedly in Scripture, to put our faith and trust in the Lord and not to fear for our flesh. This is a tough decision to make but a decision nonetheless. Kelly and I choose to believe that God is more powerful, loving and wise than anyone who can walk up our driveway. We choose to trust God and rest in His peace rather than fear the things that 'could happen' if we do this or that.
You know what? God was protecting us Saturday night and He will continue to protect us in the future. We are totally in His hands. I think we have to be prudent and good stewards of the resources He has given us so we, starting last night, will lock everything securely before retiring for the evening. We do the best we can and the rest is up to Him. I thank God and praise Him for teaching us this lesson!

All right, I confess. It was me. I wanted to feel closer to you, more connected, ya know, so I drove down to VA in the middle of the night and took your electronics. Shouldn't you have learned your lesson about locking your stuff at night when I was in my teen years sneaking out at night with the other neighborhood children? They called us the "night-walkers." We were invincible. Tsk, tsk.
