Where Is Kelly?
Many of you noticed that Kelly was not in church last Sunday. Popular rumor has it that she was home, sleeping in but I want to dispel that notion right away.
As a matter of fact, Kelly had a very busy weekend. It seems Ruth, our daughter (have I told you she was due to deliver little Samantha Paige in October?) had a baby shower thrown for her last Sunday afternoon. Kelly had told her she would be unable to attend as she had a wedding to photograph (have I told you Kelly is one of the world's best photographers?) that would run late into Saturday evening.
Now, Ruth lives in Vermont....yes that Vermont, the one way up North! Kelly left our house at 5 AM Sunday and snuck up on Ruth at her shower to surprise her. And boy, was she surprised. Ruth's husband, Todd was in on the scam all the way and helped to perpetuate the element of surprise, "Gee, Ruth, it's too bad your Mom can't make it!" Kelly called Ruth from outside the home where the party was and then burst in on her.
There were lots of yummy things to eat for a pregnant woman to enjoy. Ruth has been working full time and going to school at the same time and the Doctor wanted her to "gain a few pounds". What a prescription! These Virginia Doctors only know, "You need to loose a few pounds!" There were also lots of happy people from Ruth's church, work and school.
There were also neat gifts and games and great fellowship.
Kelly got to spend some time with Ruth and Todd before she left for home the next morning. That's about 10 hours up and 10 hours back!
I am awed by the self sacrificing, all encompassing love my wife has for our children. I'm moved by the absolute joy she takes in their successes and the pain she shares in their failures. I'm struck by the reflection of our Lord I see in the way she treats them as more important than herself, always serving, always loving, always accepting them for who they are.
What a great wife God has blessed me with!
OK, so my husband tends to exaggerate...a little. Not in the love department - don't we all love our children the same way...sometimes grieving poor choices, sometimes celebrating their successes? How our heavenly Father must do the same thing - we ARE made in His image, you know!
ReplyDeleteThe ride was 8.5 hours one way..spending quality time with God. What a joy! Time to pray, to reflect, to anticipate, to submit...good times! I listened to a lot of music as I drove, secular as well as Christian and I was just telling God how a well crafted love song can be beautiful throughout generations. God's take on all of it to me - the love songs are misdirected. Hmmm... What the heck do I know!?! Set me straight, God. Keep my heart set on You! May our devotion and songs all be directed to Him. Even in our devotion and love to our families, may our first praise go to Him for His great goodness. Amen? Amen!
Kel
Amen! To both of you! Bless you as you continue to minister in HIS name ~ to GOD be the glory! :-)
